Overview
University Medical Center (UMC) replaces the 68-year-old Medical Center of Louisiana at New Orleans (MCLNO), which closed following Hurricane Katrina. The $1.2-billion facility is part of a new New Orleans medical district.
The University Medical Center campus includes a 560,000-square-foot, 424-bed inpatient tower; an adjoining 746,982-square-foot diagnostic and treatment pavilion; an adjacent 254,765-square-foot ambulatory care pavilion; and support structures including a 546,413-square-foot, 1,346-car parking structure.
KHS&S’ scope of work, in partnership with Stewart Interiors, Metairie, LA, included the interiors of the inpatient tower and diagnostic/treatment pavilion, including metal stud framing, drywall and multiple forms of prefabrication. KHS&S prefabricated patient bathroom framing, medical headwalls, soffits, corridor rack walls and medical gas valve boxes.
