KHS&S Project Becomes Florida's First LEED Platinum Government Building

TAMPA, Florida – March 28, 2011 – KHS&S Contractors completed interior and exterior construction services for Florida's first LEED Platinum government building. Largo Community Center, Largo, Florida, recently achieved the Platinum designation, the highest available from the U.S. Green Building Council. The certification also makes the center one of the most sustainable commercial buildings in the Tampa Bay region.

KHS&S joined general contractor Creative Contractors on the 30,000-square-foot project, which opened in November.

The project features rooftop photovoltaic panels, solar water heating, low-flow water fixtures, air quality control, Florida-friendly landscaping, reclaimed water and multimodal transportation amenities. The project saves 42 percent of the energy and water needed to operate the building. View project's exterior photos.

Contributing to the LEED designation, KHS&S installed LEED fire-rated certified lumber in multiple areas of the project. KHS&S' complete scope of work included exterior metal stud framing, a sheathing and vapor barrier, stucco and Thermocromex. On the interior, KHS&S completed wall and ceiling framing and drywall, Thermocromex and FRP. View project's interior photos.

KHS&S managed the project from its office in Tampa, Florida.
