California casino breaks ground on expansion

Less than two years after its debut, Graton Resort & Casino in Sonoma County is putting down big dollars on an expansion.

The Federated Indians of the Graton Rancheria broke ground in Rohnert Park on Sept. 3 on a $175 million expansion that the project’s backers say will create more than 1,000 construction jobs and enlist nearly 100 local companies.

Designed by Las Vegas-based Friedmutter Group, the expansion consists of a 200-key hotel that will offer 20,000 square feet of flexible event space, a spa and a large pool area to serve as an extension of the lobby. The 342,000-square-foot addition will offer a variety of guestrooms ranging in size from about 500 square feet to 2,600 square feet. PENTA Building Group is the general contractor for the project, which is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2016.

KHS&S was a part of the original $800 million resort and casino which opened in 2013, completing the interior and exteriors of the main casino building, the interior and exterior of the water treatment facility and the exteriors of the central plant. Most of their interior scope included high-end faux finishes and wallcoverings. On the expansion, KHS&S is responsible for the exteriors of the hotel tower.
