Overview
This project encompassed the addition of a 117,000-square-foot Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) within an existing women’s hospital. The five-story tower expansion provided new private rooms for all patients as well as medical imaging suites, a breast health center, surgical suites and standard patient rooms, some of which are refurbished rooms in the existing hospital. Construction was completed in three phases while maintaining full operation of the existing hospital.
KHS&S completed the project interiors. Early in the preconstruction phase, KHS&S used BIM to identify and eliminate collision points in the ceilings for the MEP trades. In the field, craftsmen installed framing and drywall and completed the finishes on the hospital’s ceilings.
Craftsmen also applied Armourcoat, a high-end custom finish on headwalls and columns. The blend was created from marble grains, marble powders, limestone, natural pigments and other natural stone products. Craftsmen applied the finish with trowels for a handcrafted look.
