I-275 Panel Project

Tampa, FL

Overview

KHS&S helped design and installed 164 decorative architectural panels on five overpass bridges as part of the team that reconstructed 4.4 miles of Interstate 275 from east of State Road 60 to the Hillsborough River in Tampa. The KHS&S team completed the high-profile project on time and at budget working in precarious conditions and in coordination with other team members under general contractor Skanska USA Civil Southeast Inc.

The $220 million project won several professional awards including the 2016 Project of the Year in the transportation-roadways category by the Design-Build Institute of America, Florida region.

Although strong performance at the job site is evident by the quality of the finished product, the eventual success of the project was in motion before the first crew member stepped foot on the job site. KHS&S’ in-house preconstruction department created pages of detailed working drawings that defined every aspect of the panel to be delivered, down to the placement of each and every screw and bolt. The panel fabricator worked from these drawings to ensure each panel piece was manufactured to exact specifications and aligned perfectly on the job site.
