KHS&S Wins Central Florida ABC Subcontractor Project of the Year for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

KHS&S has won the coveted Subcontractor Project of the Year for its multiple scopes of work completed for the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge themed land at Walt Disney World Resort at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Fla.  The award, representing the “Best of the Best” in the 2020 Excellence in Construction awards program, was presented Oct. 17 by the Central Florida Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC).

The project was selected out of 40 entries and was judged on complexity and challenge level; uniqueness and innovation of construction; and level of exceptional quality. The award involved two rounds of judging by a team of industry professionals.

“This is a tremendous honor and well-deserved recognition for our talented project team,” says Michael Cannon, CEO/president, KHS&S Contractors-East Coast.  “Every level of the team, from estimators, to preconstruction professionals, to project managers and craftsmen, were 100 percent committed to the quality of this project. The finished product shows the exceptional skill of our team, and having their work recognized by this prestigious award is both exciting and humbling.”

KHS&S’s scope of work included framing, drywall, themed carved plaster, scenic paint and stains and themed architectural ornamentation. The project involved an aggressive two-year on-site construction timeline, along with another two years spent in the vital preconstruction/planning phase.

In addition to Subcontractor Project of the Year, KHS&S teams also took home first-place Eagle Awards for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge; Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure Queue Area (also a Subcontractor Project of the Year nominee); and Orlando Health’s Freestanding Emergency Department and Medical Office Building in Lake Mary, Fla.
