KHS&S Goes Green with Florida's First LEED Platinum Government Building
KHS&S joined general contractor Creative Contractors in going green on the Largo Community Center project, Florida’s first LEED platinum government building. When the project was complete in November 2010, it also became the first LEED Platinum community center in the country.
The 30,000+ square-foot facility features three studio rooms, a center stage ballroom, commercial kitchen, fitness room, art studio, card room, outdoor patio and gazebo and lounge.
KHS&S also completed traditional services and many unique architectural elements in the striking, sloping structure.
KHS&S gave the project a unique look by installing Thermocromex, a custom, four-coat limestone finish, throughout the interiors and exteriors. The project’s architect chose Thermocromex as a replacement for precast stone panels because the cost-saving option provided superior performance against the elements. Even though the finish looks like individual blocks of limestone, it’s applied like stucco.
SERVICES PROVIDED
Interior framing and drywall, level 5 finishes throughout, Thermocromex, insulation in partitions, exterior sheathing and vapor barrier, and stucco
