We’re In The News! Building Construction’s Next Generation
Tampa teams are making a difference in the lives and futures of Hillsborough County construction students and local CBS affiliate WTSP-Channel 10 is telling the story.
It initially started with KHS&S donating construction materials for use in Kyle Thompson’s Middleton High School Construction Education classroom. Before long, it blossomed into a multiyear partnership where KHS&S team members are leading classroom instruction in commercial framing, drywall, plastering and cutting metal studs.
“It’s not about preparing the students for jobs as laborers,” said KHS&S President Erik Santiago. “We help explain how these skills are an entry path to a career.”
“We’ve put a lot of energy into the program, and it’s rewarding to see students make the connection between what they’re learning in class and the potential for a career,” said Jess Robinson, senior vice president.
KHS&S is extending the learning process for interested students by offering formal apprenticeship programs within the company.
