KHS&S Director of Field Production Takes Leadership Role in Lean Construction Training

After spending years developing a successful lean construction model for KHS&S, Director of Field Production Greg Stedman is taking his knowledge and experience to the national level.

Stedman, a 14-year veteran of KHS&S, was recently named a member of the Education Subcommittee of the Lean Construction Institute (LCI), a non-profit organization committed to transforming the construction industry through lean project delivery. One of seven subcommittee members in the U.S., Stedman will be instrumental in developing the content and framework for all Institute lean construction training programs at the craft level.

Modeled closely after the KHS&S program, the LCI Lean at the Craft Level training program will target construction foremen and be based on The Last Planner®, a production planning system designed to produce predictable work flows on a project. A series of training modules will be used to teach foremen both the concepts of lean construction and how to teach these concepts, knowledge and skills to other members of the construction team.

Modules will include training on weekly work planning, lean standup board/daily huddle, make-ready planning, problem solving methods, use of progress mapping and wastes, conduct in pull planning meetings and when do you re-plan.

The complete training program will be presented at the 17th Annual LCI Congress, which will be held in Boston Oct. 12-16.
