As the building begins to cool down, the work heats up on the interior! Many of the interior finishes of the project are beginning this month. Painting and ceiling grid will continue across various areas of the building with additional subcontractors coming onboard to begin scopes including carpet, millwork and wood panels, ceiling pads, and MEP finishes. As adjustments are made to the various components, MEP systems will come online starting in mid-August and continue through September.

5.10KHS&S Opens First Office in Canada: Lands Edmonton International Airport Expansion Project
KHS&S continues to implement a targeted growth strategy with the opening of its first Canadian office in Alberta. The new office coincides with the award of a contract with PCL for the interiors and exteriors of the Edmonton International Airport Terminal Building Expansion. The $1.1 billion fast-tracked project will add more than 446,000 square feet to the airports south terminal as well as renovate existing facilities. The phased construction project will continue throughout 2012. KHS&S now operates from 15 offices throughout North America and six international offices throughout Asia and the Middle East.

12.9KHS&S Faux Cedar Exterior on Casino Snoqualmie Receives National Excellence Award
KHS&S' workmanship on the exteriors of Washington State's Casino Snoqualmie has received Walls & Ceiling Magazine's 2009 Excellence Award in the EIFS / stucco category. The project was selected from entries received across the United States and is highlighted in Walls & Ceilings December 2009 issue. For this project, KHS&S used Dryvit EIFS to create a durable alternative to real cedar. Craftsmen created a faux wood grain using EIFS, then cut the material to look like cedar siding. The finish coat is combed and stained to simulate real wood.


12.9KHS&S Helps Redefine the Las Vegas Skyline With City Center
KHS&S' quality craftsmanship is showcased throughout Las Vegas' CityCenter as it begins a series of grand openings in December. This colossal $8.5 billion, 67-acre project in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip is the most expensive privately funded construction project in U.S. history. KHS&S performed work on five major CityCenter projects - the convention center, Cirque du Soleil's Viva ELVIS™ theater, ARIA Resort & Casino, Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas and The Harmon Hotel. 7.8KHS&S Helps Set Stage for Next Generation NASA Program
KHS&S-Orlando is crafting a place in the history of space exploration with its retrofit work at NASA s Kennedy Space Center on Florida s East Coast. Craftsmen are installing metal framing and drywall on the ceilings in the high and low bays in NASA s Operations & Checkout (O&C) Building. Originally built in the 1960s, the building will play a crucial role in NASA s next-generation human space exploration initiative, the Constellation Program. The final assembly, checkout and acceptance testing of the program's crew transportation system, Orion, will eventually be performed at the O&C facility. Work will continue through September 2008.

12.1KHS&S Creates Synthetic Cedar Finish for Washington Casino
KHS&S themed artisans have created a durable, yet realistic, alternative to red cedar for the exterior of the Casino Snoqualmie in King County, Washington. Using EIFS and a mixture of artistic stains and washings, the synthetic cedar gives the appearance of real cedar, but none of the limitations, which can include high cost and high maintenance. Synthetic cedar joins a long list of other faux finishes in which KHS&S has "gone against the grain" to create real wood detailing without the inherent problems of the real material. 11.17KHS&S Builds Safe Environment at Florida Mega-Hospital
KHS&S is continuing its work on the interior build-out, drywall and exterior stucco for Gulf Coast Hospital in Fort Myers, Florida. The two-year project, which combines two smaller hospitals and adds an additional 420,000 square feet, is one of the largest hospital projects undertaken by KHS&S-East Coast. The expanded facility is being constructed with a special exterior waterproofing / air barrier to allow the facility to withstand Florida's toughest hurricanes. 4.18KHS&S' Largest Project to Date Opens in Las Vegas
Station Casinos' Red Rock Casino, Resort & Spa opens today in Las Vegas, marking the completion of KHS&S' largest single project to date. KHS&S touched nearly every element of the project, including interior drywall, specialty finishes and theming; three interior and three exterior water features; and the interior terrazzo flooring and interior and exterior architectural concrete. KHS&S installed more than 2.8 million square feet of drywall for the project and completed more than 366,000 square feet of Venetian plaster and faux finish. The entry water feature alone covers more than half an acre. "KHS&S' signature of excellence is evident from literally floor to ceiling..." said Dave Suder, president, KHS&S-West Coast. "I couldn't be prouder of our team."


3.21KHS&S Begins Work on Reno, NV Medical Complex
KHS&S has started work on a 10-story, 500,000-square-foot patient care tower for Washoe Medical Center in Reno, NV. Expected to open in summer 2007, the Tower I project is part of a multi-year expansion program designed to help the medical center keep up with a more than 30 percent increase in patient admissions over the past five years. 11.23Red Rock Station Resort & Casino Showcases Breadth of KHS&S Services
KHS&S is continuing construction of Station Casinos’ Red Rock Station Resort & Casino in Summerlin, Nevada. The largest single project to date for KHS&S, Red Rock Station features a 20-story hotel tower, a 619,705-square-foot casino, restaurants, spa and entertainment venues. Involving nearly every KHS&S specialty, KHS&S is installing more than 2.8 million square feet of drywall; 366,000 square feet of Venetian plaster and faux finish; and building six water features, one covering more than half an acre. The KHS&S Architectural Flooring Group is installing exterior walkways with stamped architectural concrete and interior terrazzo flooring. The project is expected to be complete in April 2006.


10.28KHS&S Selected to Complete Sandpearl Interiors & Exteriors
KHS&S-Tampa has been awarded a $7,000,000 contract to complete the interior metal stud framing, drywall, insulation and exterior stucco for the Sandpearl Resort on Clearwater Beach, Florida. With plans to open early 2007, the luxury resort complex will feature a 251-room, four diamond hotel, a full-service spa, fine dining, meeting & event space, 117 condominium units, 50 condominium-hotel suites and more than 11,000 sq. ft. of retail space. Hensel Phelps is the general contractor. JMC Communities is the project's owner. KHS&S will begin work in January 2006.

5.5KHS&S Facades Take Center Stage at Debut of Disney-MGM Studios' "Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show" TM
Disney-MGM Studios' newest attraction opened today in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, featuring KHS&S facades that provide a French-inspired backdrop for this high energy stage show. "Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show" is centered on the filming of a spy thriller and reveals the show secrets of high-speed automobile, motorcycle and watercraft stunts. Based on the popular Stunt Show Spectacular at Disneyland Paris, the show features KHS&S-created sets inspired by the village of Villefranche-sur-Mer in the south of France. KHS&S built the 177,000-square-foot set, on one of the largest at Walt Disney World Resort, by attaching 14 different facades to a butler-style, corrugated framed building. KHS&S completed the themed plaster and stucco finishes and installed themed roofs, doors, windows and balconies reminiscent of the Mediterranean.


4.8KHS&S-Tampa Earns ABC Subcontractor Project of the Year Award
KHS&S-Tampa earned the coveted Subcontractor Project of the Year Award and a first- place Eagle award at the ABC Florida Gulf Coast Chapter's Excellence in Construction Awards Banquet held April 8 in Tampa, FL. KHS&S' work on the $142,000,000 Glenridge on Palmer Ranch project in Sarasota, Florida, earned Subcontractor Project of the Year. KHS&S' scope of work included the installation of more than 2.5 million square feet of drywall, 3,065 EIFS window headers, 148 EIFS columns and more than 8,000 linear feet of EIFS cornice. 3.11KHS&S Turns Up the Glitz at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino-Tampa
The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino-Tampa officially opened today, completing 1.5 years of construction which transformed the original single-structure Seminole Casino into a first-class boutique hotel and Las Vegas-style destination. KHS&S completed the interior and exterior finishes, including metal framing, drywall, FRP panels and decorative interior ceiling drops for the 90,000-square-foot casino and 250-room, 12-story hotel tower. The two-phased project was constructed while the existing casino was still operating, requiring KHS&S to construct temporary exterior EIFS panels and temporary drywall partitions to separate the first phase of the project from the casino. When phase I was completed in June 2003, KHS&S began phase II where the original casino once stood. The project was developed by the Cordish Company for the Seminole Indian Tribe. Perini/Suitt Joint Venture was the general contractor.

KHS&S has earned the #1 wall and ceiling contractor spots in California, Florida and Nevada as ranked by McGraw Hill's Top Specialty Contractors listings in California Construction Link, Southeast Construction and Southwest Contractor magazines. Published in August, the rankings were based on 2002 revenue. In addition, KHS&S was named Nevada's "Best Wall and Ceiling Contractor." In this new ranking, general contractors were asked to vote on "favorite" specialty contractors in each category based on quality of work, timeliness, project management skills, communication skills, timely billings and staying on or under budget.


7.3Dramatic Ceilings Contribute to Borgata Upscale Elegance
Atlantic City's Borgata, the first new casino to open in Atlantic City in 13 years, debuts today featuring dramatic ceilings that bring the warmth and beauty of Tuscan architecture to this Renaissance Pointe venue. Based on Dougall Design's plans, KHS&S craftsmen constructed more than 27,000 linear feet of soffits and completed more than 200,000 square feet of ceilings, including dramatic groin vaulted ceilings, elliptical vaulted domes, pyramid vaults and vaulted, pentagonal ceilings, many involving intricate faux painting. In addition, KHS&S installed the casino's more than 3,600 slot machines and hotel's 60,000 pieces of furniture, fixtures and equipment.


6.18Thunder Valley Casino Showcases KHS&S Theming Artistry
The United Auburn Indian Community and Station Casinos' Thunder Valley Casino celebrated its grand opening, bringing to Sacramento, CA a first-class 250,000-square foot casino. In addition to exterior framing, EIFS, interior framing and drywall, KHS&S craftsmen completed the facility's themed elements including multiple faux finishes, Venetian plasters and intricate ceiling designs. The KHS&S Water Feature and Rockwork Technology Group also created an outdoor fountain, pool and stone column water feature, topped with flaming bowls eight feet in diameter. The $22-million project was the culmination of a fast-track six-month schedule that included using craftsmen from three KHS&S office locations.


5.13KHS&S-Reno Wins EIMA Award for EIFS Excellence
Reno was awarded a 2003 Excellence in EIFS Construction Award from the EIFS Industry Members Association for its work on Marriott's Timber Lodge at Lake Tahoe, California. KHS&S received the award for its exterior work on this mountain lodge, which features more than 350 rooms and suites. The award was received in the "new commercial projects over 10,000 square feet" category.


4.25BC Recognizes KHS&S-Tampa for Outstanding Work
Tampa has won two Excellence in Construction awards from the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors. KHS&S-Tampa earned the premier prize - the Subcontractor Project of the Year Award - for its work on International Plaza and Bay Street on the Plaza in Tampa. They also earned an Excellence in Construction Award for work on the Nina Harris Exceptional Student Education Center in Pinellas Park, Florida.


4.23KHS&S Wrapping Up Largest Casino in Arizona
KHS&S is on schedule for completing the themed construction for the expansion of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe's Casino Del Sol in Tucson. When complete, the casino will total 213,000 square feet, making it the largest casino and entertainment venue in Arizona. KHS&S craftsmen are completing the themed construction for the Tuscan-themed complex, including the project's 41,000-square-foot sky mural, peaking at 46 feet above the gaming floor, and nearly one-quarter mile of themed facades, designed to replicate authentic Tuscan village streetscapes. The project is expected to open in Summer 2003. Leo A Daly is the project architect. McCarthy Building Company is the general contractor.


3.28KHS&S Receives AWCI 2003 Excellence in Construction Quality Award
The Association of the Wall and Ceilings Industries - International (AWCI) today presented KHS&S with the 2003 Excellence in Construction Quality Award for KHS&S' work on the interiors and exteriors of Gaylord Palms Resort in Kissimmee, Florida. The first-place, national award was presented at the annual AWCI convention in New Orleans, La. KHS&S work was selected from entries submitted by wall and ceiling contractors throughout the United States and was judged on quality, complexity and safety. For the Gaylord Palms exteriors, KHS&S erected more than 230,000 square feet of scaffolding, completed approximately 1.1 million linear feet of metal stud framing and applied more than 450,000 square feet of Dryvit EIFS, one-half-mile of exterior balustrades, and numerous GFRC/GFRG forms and foam shapes. In addition, KHS&S completed more than 48,000 square feet of themed interiors including a full replication of a 65 ft. X 26 ft. two-masted ketch, home to the resort's Key West-themed liquor and oyster bar.


2.21Healthcare Construction Group Scores A Hit with Bovis Lend Lease
The KHS&S Healthcare Construction Group has been named Subcontractor of the Month for Bovis Lend Lease's JFK Medical Center project in Atlantis, Florida. Part of Bovis Lend Lease's Batting Average Incentive Program, the award recognizes excellence in subcontractor performance by giving "hits" in 12 key categories including safety, conformance, scheduling, change orders, daily reports and coordination with other trades. The award is presented to the subcontractor with the highest "batting average."
