The Buena Vista Street improvements and re-themed entrance of Disney’s California Adventure promenade pays homage to the Los Angeles that Walt Disney encountered upon his 1923 arrival. The project itself includes multiple improvements to retail shops, turnstiles, the monorail bridge and the soon to be iconic Cathay Theatre. KHS&S was contracted to construct the storefronts, cast pieces, store interiors, architectural ornamentation,turnstiles, and exterior of the Carthay Theatre.
KHS&S utilized its global procurement group to select and develop multiple Chinese Fabricators to complete multiple GFRC, cast and cast iron pieces. In total, more than 1,000 pieces were fabricated under the careful eye of KHS&S and all first articles were approved by WDI prior to shipment.
Integrating KHS&S’ design assist capability with China fabrication, KHS&S developed a methodical process to achieving quality products that WDI requires. KHS&S researched and qualified several fabricators, interviewed and selected a few to develop to understand the level of quality and safety required
KHS&S was responsible for the traditional framing and drywall as well as the GFRC - Base, and Caps including Running Trims, RFP - Decorative Panels including Scroll Panels and various Cast Iron Pieces.
