Shoppers are wowed by the 30 metallic painted columns that add reflective beauty to the common areas of the mall. Skilled KHS&S craftsmen assembled the GFRC columns on site, then painted them with a metallic paint to replicate a bright aluminum finish. KHS&S value-engineered the process to save hundreds of thousands of dollars over the cost of metal cladding. While constructing the columns, workers used 60- to 80-foot booms instead of scaffolding to save valuable floor space. This allowed other trades to continue working on the project.
KHS&S also shaped the expansion's interior with 1 million square feet of framing and drywall. KHS&S also applied 100,000 square feet of EIFS to the exterior between the mall's anchor stores and about 30,000 bags of fireproofing to the expansion.
KHS&S worked double and night shifts to stick to a challenging construction schedule. The timeline was made even more demanding with additional fireproofing, framing, drywall and faux finishing for mall tenants.
