KHS&S has expanded services to include architectural flooring systems. The KHS&S Architectural Flooring Group will offer a complete range of decorative flooring services and systems, including cast-in-place textured concrete, concrete surface finishing, thin-set topping, epoxy and rusticated terrazzo, pool decking and other hard-surface flooring materials. 7.01.04 KHS&S-West Coast Names John Platon Senior Vice President
KHS&S-West Coast is proud to announce the promotion of John Platon, KHS&S-Anaheim, to Senior Vice President. Platon was previously vice president of estimating / business development, a position he held since joining KHS&S in May 2001. In his new role, Platon is responsible for securing profitable new projects and for identifying and developing opportunities for joint ventures and other business relationships that further KHS&S' strategic goals for growth and expansion. 6.11.04 KHS&S Named Tampa Bay's Top-Ranked Commercial Real Estate Company
For the second year in a row, The Tampa Bay Business Journal has named KHS&S Contractors Tampa Bay's top-ranked commercial real estate company. The ranking is part of Tampa Bay Business 200 - an annual listing of 200 of Tampa Bay's largest privately held companies. KHS&S was 13th on the list, which is based on 2003 revenue. In 2003, KHS&S was 18th.


6.7.04 KHS&S Creates the Best of Texas Under Glass at the Gaylord Texan
KHS&S Contractors has once again brought its magic to a Gaylord hotel. In addition to installing more than 2,000,000 square feet of drywall in the hotel's massive convention center, KHS&S used its themed construction expertise to pay tribute to the Lone Star State by turning the atrium of Gaylord's newest resort into a fantasy of Texas-size proportion. 5.06.04 KHS&S Forms Joint Venture in Pacific Northwest

3.17.04 KHS&S-Concord Moves to Larger Office Space

3.11.04 KHS&S Turns Up the Glitz at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino-Tampa
The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino-Tampa officially opened today, completing 1.5 years of construction which transformed the original single-structure Seminole Casino into a first-class boutique hotel and Las Vegas-style destination. KHS&S completed the interior and exterior finishes, including metal framing, drywall, FRP panels and decorative interior ceiling drops for the 90,000-square-foot casino and 250-room, 12-story hotel tower. The two-phased project was constructed while the existing casino was still operating, requiring KHS&S to construct temporary exterior EIFS panels and temporary drywall partitions to separate the first phase of the project from the casino. When phase I was completed in June 2003, KHS&S began phase II where the original casino once stood. The project was developed by the Cordish Company for the Seminole Indian Tribe. Perini/Suitt Joint Venture was the general contractor.

2.15.04 Faux Finishes Taking Shape at Caesars Forum Shops Expansion
HS&S is creating highly stylized faux marble finishes and more than 7,000 ornamental elements for the Phase III expansion of The Forum Shops, Simon Properties highly acclaimed retail development located at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. Once the expansion is complete, shoppers can walk through the Roman street scenes in the original shopping areas, then enter a breathtaking view of an ancient Roman palace in phase III. "The level of faux finishes in the project, and the artistic processes we used to create the finishes are remarkable," says Phil Cherne, KHS&S senior vice president. "We worked closely with the designer to create the right look, color and feel for the finishes. The final result is very important to the overall look of the project. It brings a real richness to the environment." The project is expected to be complete in August 2004. Perini Building Company is the general contractor

11.01.03 KHS&S Earns Top Honors in ABC Excellence Awards
KHS&S Contractors' work on two Orlando, Florida projects was recognized for outstanding workmanship at the Central Florida Chapter Associated Builders and Contractors Annual Excellence in Construction Awards program held Nov. 1 at the Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Studios Florida. KHS&S was presented with a first-place Eagle Award for its interior framing and exterior EIFS work on Festival Bay at International Drive, a 200,000-square-foot shopping center expansion. KHS&S earned a Merit Award for interior and exterior work for Orlando's Windermere Preparatory School. The awards continue a long history of award-winning work for KHS&S, which has won at least one award in this competition since 1988.


10.20.03 KHS&S Ranking Continues to Climb in ENR Top 600 Specialty Contractors Survey
KHS&S Contractors was ranked the 2nd largest wall and ceiling contractor and the 33rd largest specialty contractor in Engineering News-Record's 2003 Top 600 Specialty Contractors Survey published October 20. The ranking moves KHS&S up three spots from 2002, when KHS&S was ranked the 36th largest specialty contractor. The 2003 ranking is ENR's 26th annual listing of The Top 600 Specialty Contractors Survey which ranks the top firms in 15 building specialties. Rankings are based on 2002 construction revenue.


10.13.03 KHS&S Wins Coveted Sarno Award for Casino Construction
KHS&S Contractors today received one of only 17 national Sarno Awards for its themed construction on Desert Passage at the Aladdin Casino, Las Vegas. KHS&S earned the award in the Best Overall Casino / Resort Construction Project under $100 Million category. Presented by Global Gaming Business magazine, the Sarno Awards recognize extraordinary efforts in architecture, design and construction in the gaming industry. A panel of five judges evaluated hundreds of entries from across the country in the areas of real estate development, architectural design, construction, theming, signage, landscaping, interior design and attractions. The awards were presented at the first-ever Casino Design 2003 - a two-day conference that brought together architectural and construction professionals from across the United States.


8.15.03 KHS&S Earns Top Spots in Regional Rankings
KHS&S has earned the #1 wall and ceiling contractor spots in California, Florida and Nevada as ranked by McGraw Hill's Top Specialty Contractors listings in California Construction Link, Southeast Construction and Southwest Contractor magazines. Published in August, the rankings were based on 2002 revenue. In addition, KHS&S was named Nevada's "Best Wall and Ceiling Contractor." In this new ranking, general contractors were asked to vote on "favorite" specialty contractors in each category based on quality of work, timeliness, project management skills, communication skills, timely billings and staying on or under budget.


7.03.03 Dramatic Ceilings Contribute to Borgata Upscale Elegance
Atlantic City's Borgata, the first new casino to open in Atlantic City in 13 years, debuts today featuring dramatic ceilings that bring the warmth and beauty of Tuscan architecture to this Renaissance Pointe venue. Based on Dougall Design's plans, KHS&S craftsmen constructed more than 27,000 linear feet of soffits and completed more than 200,000 square feet of ceilings, including dramatic groin vaulted ceilings, elliptical vaulted domes, pyramid vaults and vaulted, pentagonal ceilings, many involving intricate faux painting. In addition, KHS&S installed the casino's more than 3,600 slot machines and hotel's 60,000 pieces of furniture, fixtures and equipment.


6.18.03 Thunder Valley Casino Showcases KHS&S Theming Artistry
The United Auburn Indian Community and Station Casinos' Thunder Valley Casino celebrated its grand opening, bringing to Sacramento, CA a first-class 250,000-square foot casino. In addition to exterior framing, EIFS, interior framing and drywall, KHS&S craftsmen completed the facility's themed elements including multiple faux finishes, Venetian plasters and intricate ceiling designs. The KHS&S Water Feature and Rockwork Technology Group also created an outdoor fountain, pool and stone column water feature, topped with flaming bowls eight feet in diameter. The $22-million project was the culmination of a fast-track six-month schedule that included using craftsmen from three KHS&S office locations. See photographs of KHS&S artistry.


5.15.03 KHS&S-Reno Wins EIMA Award for EIFS Excellence

KHS&S-Reno was awarded a 2003 Excellence in EIFS Construction Award from the EIFS Industry Members Association for its work on Marriott's Timber Lodge at Lake Tahoe, California. KHS&S received the award for its exterior work on this mountain lodge, which features more than 350 rooms and suites. The award was received in the "new commercial projects over 10,000 square feet" category.


4.25.03 - ABC Recognizes KHS&S-Tampa for Outstanding Work

KHS&S-Tampa has won two Excellence in Construction awards from the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors. KHS&S-Tampa earned the premier prize - the Subcontractor Project of the Year Award - for its work on International Plaza and Bay Street on the Plaza in Tampa. They also earned an Excellence in Construction Award for work on the Nina Harris Exceptional Student Education Center in Pinellas Park, Florida.


4.23.03 KHS&S Wrapping Up Largest Casino in Arizona
KHS&S is on schedule for completing the themed construction for the expansion of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe's Casino Del Sol in Tucson. When complete, the casino will total 213,000 square feet, making it the largest casino and entertainment venue in Arizona. KHS&S craftsmen are completing the themed construction for the Tuscan-themed complex, including the project's 41,000-square-foot sky mural, peaking at 46 feet above the gaming floor, and nearly one-quarter mile of themed facades, designed to replicate authentic Tuscan village streetscapes. The project is expected to open in Summer 2003. Leo A Daly is the project architect. McCarthy Building Company is the general contractor.


3.28.03 KHS&S Receives AWCI 2003 Excellence in Construction Quality Award
The Association of the Wall and Ceilings Industries - International (AWCI) today presented KHS&S with the 2003 Excellence in Construction Quality Award for KHS&S' work on the interiors and exteriors of Gaylord Palms Resort in Kissimmee, Florida. The first-place, national award was presented at the annual AWCI convention in New Orleans, La. KHS&S work was selected from entries submitted by wall and ceiling contractors throughout the United States and was judged on quality, complexity and safety. For the Gaylord Palms exteriors, KHS&S erected more than 230,000 square feet of scaffolding, completed approximately 1.1 million linear feet of metal stud framing and applied more than 450,000 square feet of Dryvit EIFS, one-half-mile of exterior balustrades, and numerous GFRC/GFRG forms and foam shapes. In addition, KHS&S completed more than 48,000 square feet of themed interiors including a full replication of a 65 ft. X 26 ft. two-masted ketch, home to the resort's Key West-themed liquor and oyster bar.


2.21.03 - Healthcare Construction Group Scores A Hit with Bovis Lend Lease

The KHS&S Healthcare Construction Group has been named Subcontractor of the Month for Bovis Lend Lease's JFK Medical Center project in Atlantis, Florida. Part of Bovis Lend Lease's Batting Average Incentive Program, the award recognizes excellence in subcontractor performance by giving "hits" in 12 key categories including safety, conformance, scheduling, change orders, daily reports and coordination with other trades. The award is presented to the subcontractor with the highest "batting average." The Healthcare Construction Group is a KHS&S division devoted specifically to the special requirements of constructing healthcare facilities.
